Two Piedmont High School students who play with the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra — Miles Antaya (violinist, 11th grade) and Laurel Minor (trombone, 9th grade) — got an unusual opportunity to perform with rapper G-Eazy during pregame festivities at a sold-out Oakland Roots SC soccer match on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Laney College.
Over 5,000 people showed up for the final home game of the season against Birmingham FC.
“It was really fun being part of such a cool community event,” said Antaya. “We had a local pro soccer team, a lot of really excited and committed Roots fans, taco trucks, and the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra. I loved being a part of it all.”
G-Eazy is an American rapper from Oakland who is now a part owner of the Roots soccer club. The Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Director Omid Zoufonoun, consists of over 90 middle school and high school music students from 46 schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
