There are many reasons to re-elect Betsy Andersen to the Piedmont City Council — her experience (nothing in city government is simple and she has shown she understands how to develop feasible solutions and implement them), her fiscal responsibility (city budgets are constrained even here in wealthy Piedmont, but Betsy knows how to make our limited resources deliver maximum impact), and her commitment (the number of hours it takes to be up to speed on the council’s agenda every month and to follow up on existing business and to meet with constituents is staggeringly high; Betsy puts in the time and then some).
These attributes alone are enough to make Betsy an ideal leader for Piedmont, but I think the most compelling reason to support her for re-election is her fairness and willingness to listen. We are heading into a contentious period for the city, as we seek to implement new state housing mandates, face new pressures on delivering critical services, and continue to update aging city buildings and infrastructure. We need someone who will hear all opinions and who has proven able to build consensus among competing points of view. That’s Betsy. She’s been an excellent, open-minded, results-driven council member these past four years, and I’m delighted to be voting for her re-election.
