From the Sept. 8 Piedmont Recreation Department enewsletter
The Piedmont Recreation Department (PRD) is expanding Sidekicks and we hope you can join in growing this impactful program this coming winter/spring 2023.
The goal of Sidekicks is to offer kids with neurodiverse needs engaging programs in a safe and supportive environment.
Sidekicks Teachers
Classes during the schoolyear are afterschool or on weekends – the exact timing is entirely up to you and your schedule! We have several Teen Sidekicks that are also available to help out at each class. As an independent contractor, you decide on the class subject (e.g., art, music, movement, social, sports, etc.), cost, dates, minimum/maximum number of students, etc.
If you have an idea for a class you’d like to teach, please reach out to Eva Phalen to discuss what it means to teach for PRD.
Sidekicks Assistant Coordinator
If you are interested in a more administrative role, PRD is also looking for an experienced special ed teacher or paraprofessional that can assist with the 2023 Summer Sidekicks program. As an assistant coordinator, you would help market the program and manage general communication, recruit and interview Teen Sidekicks, pair campers with Teen Sidekicks, provide support for families and Teen Sidekicks during the summer, facilitate training, etc.
The position would be part-time and have flexible hours, beginning in February or March 2023. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Eva Phalen.
