The Blotter | Two stolen vehicles recovered in Piedmont

Honda CRV and Ford 150 found.

The Piedmont Police Department recovered a pair of stolen vehicles on consecutive days. On August 7, a Piedmont Police officer found a 1997 Honda CRV with no license plates parked on Harrison Street. According to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan, the officer did a records check and found the car was reported stolen out of Oakland on August 4. The vehicle was towed.

On August 8, the same officer was in the area of Trestle Glen  Road and Westly Way, when his car’s Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR) reported a hit on a parked white 1999 Ford F-150. Upon a records check, it was discovered the vehicle had been stolen out of Oakland on July 17, according to Captain Monahan. That vehicle was also towed.


A car was stolen out of Piedmont from Park Blvd. on the morning of August 6. The victim reported the theft of a red 2003 GMC Envoy at 10:21 a.m. They did not see the crime but they said it was observed by a neighbor. The vehicle was found two days later in Hayward with minor damage and its plates taken, according to Captain Monahan.

A green 1998 Ford Ranger was taken from Wildwood Avenue overnight on August 5-6. The theft was reported at 11:13 a.m. on August 8. It was recovered in Oakland on August 9. There is no further information.


A driver was arrested for DUI early in the morning of August 12. A blue Ford Focus with no license plates was observed by a Piedmont Police officer driving south on Grand Avenue. The officer pulled the vehicle over and the driver hit the curb and drove onto the sidewalk while stopping, according to Captain Monahan.

The officer reported the driver had watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, the driver took two breath tests with results of .117 and .104 BAC. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and booked on DUI and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, according to Captain Monahan.


On August 15, the city’s ALPR cameras recorded a hit on a stolen vehicle near Grand and Wildwood around 3 p.m. The alert was for a black 2019 Audi taken out of Fresno. A Piedmont Police officer saw the vehicle and conducted a stop. The driver was found to have a warrant out of San Mateo County for fraud, ID theft and failure to appear, according to Captain Monahan. Officers found credit cards, drivers licenses and stolen mail in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail.
