Who’s that Good Dog?

Left to right: Emmett and Penny; Curtis and McKinley; Cole and Marley

PHS pals and the pandemic brought this trio of Golden Retriever puppies together.

The first in Good Dog history, this week’s feature is actually a trio. It was pure coincidence that three sophomore friends, Curtis Hohener, Emmett Maxwell, and Cole Nash all got Golden Retriever puppies around the same time in 2021. Though less frequent now that lacrosse season has started, the friends previously made a habit of loading up their pups and taking them to Piedmont Park after school. The puppies (as seen above, from left to right), Penny (Emmett’s dog), McKinley (Curtis’s dog), and Marley (Cole’s dog), are all very fond of one another.

Dog: Penny

Family: Deborah, Eddie, Oliver and Emmett Maxwell

Age: 8 months

Breed: Golden Retriever

Adoption story: After only having rescues, we decided last summer to get a puppy from a breeder in Utah.

Likes: She is a textbook Golden Retriever straight from Central Casting. She enjoys bones, balls, sticks, peanut butter, driving in the car with her head out the window and destroying dog toys.

Dislikes: Being alone, any doors that are closed, and when people don’t acknowledge her.

Interesting facts: She has yet to meet a person she doesn’t like.

Anything else? Penny is the Super Chewer with a penchant for prescription eyeglasses, socks, and shoes.

Dog: McKinley

Family: Curtis, KeriAnne, Christian, and Hanna Hohener

Age: 11 months

Breed: Golden Retriever

Adoption story: She was adopted from a family in Clovis, CA. We were lucky to find her through the AKC website and picked her up at 8 weeks old within a week.

Likes: Playing off leash with other dogs, hanging out with her humans, chewing on toys, trying every day to play with our 13 year old dog.

Dislikes: She doesn’t like it when we stop her from digging in the backyard.

Interesting facts: She is happy to play with dogs and humans alike!

Dog: Marley

Family: Kriss, Michael, Ella Rey, and Cole Nash

Age: 5 months old

Breed: English Cream Golden Retriever

Adoption story: We got Marley from Sweet Cream Goldens in Nine Mile Falls, WA.  We actually chose her over Zoom and had a courier bring her to us at SFO airport the week before Christmas. She was our favorite Christmas gift!  We were unable to find a puppy locally due to the pandemic.

Likes: She loves to eat!  She often spins 5 times when you put her food into her bowl. She is very affectionate and loves sitting in your lap.

Dislikes: She doesn’t like when her family leaves and she is not wild about baths.

Interesting facts: She likes to watch TV. She loved watching skiing during the Olympics. She is a great dog.

Anything else? We’re so happy to have a puppy in the house!
