Who’s that Good Dog?

Left to right: Holly (Chihuahua) Rachel, Jackson (terrier), Julie, Sunny (Golden Retriever), Greg, Lucy

Family: Julie, Greg, Rachel, and Lucy Barton

Pets: Jackson, Holly, and Sunny

Ages: Jackson is almost 15, Holly is at least 13 (exact age unknown), and Sunny is 2.5

Breeds: Jackson is a terrier mutt mix, Holly is a Chihuahua, and Sunny is a Golden Retriever

Adoption stories: We adopted Jackson in 2007 when he was 1, and we are his fourth home.

We intended to only foster Holly for a week or two around Christmas, but that was six years ago. She was a police seizure in Yuba City, spent a few months in the pound before being rescued by Wonder Dog Rescue. Holly has no teeth so her tongue hangs out and she’s also deaf, but this adds to her charm and her Instagram popularity.

Sunny is Piedmont-born and bred. She was born on Blair Ave and her dad — named Miles — also lives in town. Sunny’s mom moved to Hawaii during the pandemic but her sister, also named Sunny, lives in town and they often see each other at Dracena park.

Likes: Jackson likes wide open spaces and no leashes. Holly likes laps, rays of sunshine, and soft places to curl up into a bean. Sunny likes to spoon in bed, but most of all she likes to chase the B-A-L-L.

Dislikes: Jackson does not like cuddling or having his nails trimmed. Holly does not like being cold or picked up when she’s sleeping. Sunny does not like being left at home without us, ever.

Interesting facts: Sometimes, after we leave, Jackson howls. Sunny uses communication buttons to say, “Walk,” “Outside,” and “I love you.”
