Reports of a man with a gun trigger shelter in place warnings
A man was arrested after the Piedmont Police Department received several reports of a man with a gun walking around the area of St. James Drive, Park Street, Sandringham Road, Cambrian Avenue and Trestle Glen Road on the evening of March 6. The man turned out to have a replica gun.
Police requested residents shelter in place while they searched for the suspect. Piedmont and Oakland police were searching and a helicopter was involved in the search.
The shelter in place was lifted after about 90 minutes when the man was found. He was taken in on “numerous” charges, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan, including probation violations and warrants. Captain Monahan added that the individual committed a “home invasion” at a residence on La Salle Avenue.
Missing child found
A missing child was found safe on March 3 after being reported missing. Piedmont Police amplified the report on social media. The 8-year old boy turned out to be playing at a friend’s house without telling his parents.
Woman arrested in Dracena assault
A woman was arrested on March 1 regarding an item in last week’s report. A woman walking her dog was allegedly assaulted and had her phone stolen. The suspect was found in an apartment in Oakland. Kristina Tierney of Woodland was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and booked for robbery, assault, criminal threats and violation of probation, according to Captain Monahan.
ALPRs at work
A car reported stolen was recovered after triggering the city’s Automated License Plate Reader on Feburary 28. The ALPR recorded the hit at about 5:21 a.m. on a 2012 tan Volkswagen traveling north on Boulevard Way at Crofton Avenue. The vehicle was stopped on Grand Avenue and the driver was arrested, taken to Santa Rita and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, probation violations and possession of narcotics, according to Captain Monahan.
On March 3, the ALPR recorded a hit on a stolen vehicle belonging to a rental car company — a 2022 silver Toyota Corolla driving north on Grand at Wildwood Avenue. The vehicle was located on Highland Avenue and was stopped. The driver was taken to Santa Rita.
A stolen 2004 BMW was also tagged by the ALPR system on March 3. The vehicle was eventually stopped at Scenic Avenue. Captain Monahan said one person was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of narcotics and outstanding warrants. The vehicle was returned to the victim.
Report: OPD says missing woman found deceased
The Oakland Police Department announced on Monday that a 79-year-old woman with a cognitive impairment who went missing from the 6500 block of Liggett Drive on Feb. 15 had been located. The Mercury News reported on Tuesday that Maria Mooney had been found deceased on March 2 and that authorities did not believe the cause was homicide. The police have not revealed any more details.
