Two suspects were arrested and booked on attempted auto burglary charges after being pulled over in Piedmont.
The pair were observed by Piedmont Police Department officers at 4:22 a.m. on Jan. 8 on St. James Drive. According to Piedmont police Capt. Chris Monahan, two Hispanic males then ran to a black Mercedes with paper plates. Officers pulled the vehicle over on Cambrian Way.
“A window punch burglary tool” was found in the front passenger seat of the Mercedes, according to Captain Monahan.
“Further investigation revealed the windows on the two victim vehicles had been wiped of dew,” Monahan said.
The two men were arrested. A third person was also detained.
On Jan. 8, a blonde woman was reported to be attempting to steal a 2008 Land Rover parked on Sheridan Avenue. The report came at 4:11 a.m.
The suspect rifled through the interior of the vehicle, according to Monahan, and took multiple sets of keys, including house, car, and business.
Officers arrived on the scene, and the suspect fled in a “blacked out” Mazda SUV, Monahan said. Officers did not pursue.
No video surveillance is available and there is no further suspect information at this time.
Later on Jan. 8, a theft of a hard convertible top was reported. The incident occurred on Prospect Road. Sometime between 7:10 and 7:15 p.m., a 2001 Honda S2000 had its top stolen. In the process, the thieves damaged the passenger side window, driver’s side lock, and the vehicle’s hood latch.
The hardtop is valued at $2,400 and the damage to the vehicle at $1,500, according to Monahan.
A possible suspect vehicle is a blue 2001 Lexus LS430. The investigation is ongoing.
On Jan. 9, a black Chevrolet Silverado was recovered on St. James. At 12:52 a.m., an officer on patrol observed the truck, which had been reported stolen out of Castro Valley on New Year’s Eve. A male suspect was inside the parked vehicle and was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
On Jan. 12, a report came in of a vehicle that had the nuts stolen off of the wheels, which led to a wheel falling off while a woman was driving the vehicle. She reported she had just left home when the incident happened on Guilford Road at 2:29 p.m. The vehicle suffered moderate damage, according to Monahan.
