The Blotter | Suspect sought for smashing car windows

A suspect is being sought for smashing the windows of multiple vehicles in Piedmont on the morning of Dec. 17.

Several reports came into the Piedmont Police Department, with the first at 6:45 a.m. The suspect hit several cars on Caperton and Lakeview avenues. The suspect also burglarized a vehicle on Sheridan Avenue, where sunglasses valued at $1,000 were taken, according to Piedmont Police.

Contact was made with a possible suspect observed in the area, according to police, but “they could not confirm who the suspect was,” said Piedmont police Capt. Chris Monahan. “Later, video surveillance footage was obtained showing the suspect committing crimes.”

Follow up on the crimes is ongoing.

On Dec. 12, police received a hit on a stolen 2014 black Toyota Camry. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Oakland two days before. The car was located unoccupied on the 3800 block of Piedmont Avenue, according to Monahan. The registered owner was notified and retrieved the vehicle.

On Dec. 13, a tree fell on power lines causing a power shutdown on Winsor Avenue and Wallace Road. Sparking wires were reported at 7:49 a.m. Approximately 10 homes and 12 vehicles were affected, according to the police log. PG&E arrived and shut down power in the area.
