On December 6 the City Council is scheduled to consider adoption of a resolution to: a) adopt the Piedmont Safer Streets (PSS) plan, and b) adopt the Initial Study and Negative Declaration for the Piedmont Safer Streets plan.
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee (PBAC) recommended on Oct. 7 that the City Council adopt the Draft Piedmont Safer Streets Plan with four additional recommendations. PBAC member Eugene Brown said, “appropriate considerations and recommendations have been made and I would look at this as a mid-point in a continually evolving process that will continue to be evaluated and modified as circumstances dictate.”
Pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines Section 15072, staff prepared an Initial Study (IS) for public review. Having received no comments, staff is recommending that City Council adopt a Negative Declaration (Neg Dec) based on the Initial Study (IS).
Following adoption of the PSS Plan, implementation of the Plan’s recommendations, programs and policies will commence. City staff will continue to monitor existing bike and pedestrian infrastructure and traffic conditions in the City. “The Piedmont Safer Streets report is a vital document that will act as a blueprint for prioritizing the locations and the types of bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements over the next five years. Public Works and Engineering look forward to addressing the issues identified at the highest priority locations first and making this community a safer place to walk and bike,” said Daniel Gonzales, City’s Public Works Director.
The Final Draft Plan is available for public review on the City’s website HERE.
The December 6 City Council meeting agenda and staff report for the Plan will be posted on the City’s website (link to the agenda and staff report is provided below) no later than Friday, December 3.
