The Wellness Center Support Committee is pleased to announce the second annual Walk for Wellness, the largest yearly fundraiser for Piedmont Unified School District’s Wellness Center. Walk for Wellness 2021 will take place September 20-26, and is an inclusive, accessible, and socially-distanced event open to the entire Piedmont community.

The event focuses on physical, mental and emotional wellness and is once again co-chaired by Nicki Gilbert and KeriAnne Hohener. “Walk for Wellness raises much-needed funding for the Wellness Center while increasing awareness of the need for mental health services for our students,” said Hohener. “Last year we raised more than $37,000,” added Gilbert. “Our goal is to exceed that amount this year. Our students’ health and wellness is clearly a priority for our community.”

Participants will receive fun giveaways and access to a choice of maps detailing walks around town. This year, participants are invited to collect their giveaways at the Walk for Wellness booth at the Harvest Festival on September 19. All Piedmonters are encouraged to gather their families, friends and pets and participate in as many walks as possible during the week of September 20, and to post photos from their walks @piedmontwellness on Instagram.

The PUSD Wellness Center provides confidential, free on-campus and online counseling to all Piedmont High School, Millennium High School and Piedmont Middle School students. The Wellness Center helps students manage common emotional and social challenges of middle and high school including stress, depression, grief, family or friendship conflicts, and substance use concerns. Approximately one third of high school and one quarter of middle school students receive counseling at the Wellness Center each year.

The Walk for Wellness Committee is grateful to the more than 30 Piedmont families who have sponsored the event so far, and to the following corporate and in-kind sponsors: Ace Hardware, Anian & Adrienne, Bay Design & Build, Berkeley Orinda Orthodontics, Clif Bar, The Cooper Group, East Bay Pediatrics, The Grubb Co., Hillside View Orthodontics, Harmless Harvest, Jeff George Landscape Architecture, Jim Gardner Construction, Machaon Diagnostics, Mulberry’s Market, Nia Impact Capital, Niantic, Piedmont Parents Network, Sarah Abel & Julie Gardner and Village Market.

  1. Love this event. Can’t wait to walk with the Piedmont Racial Equity Campaign (meet at Exedra fountain/vase 1:00 p.m. Sun 8/21), Piedmont Community Service Crew (meet at Reservoir on Blair Ave. also 1:00 p.m.) and so many other great groups when they help kick-off the event SUNDAY AUGUST 21. I’m sure the Wednesday Walkers are meeting up as usual Wed. 10:30, also at the fountain. Any other groups walking?
