Milestones | 8th graders graduate under sunny skies

8th graders on the field during the graduation ceremony.

More than 200 Piedmont Middle School eighth graders and their families gathered together at Witter Field for the first time in more than a year to mark the end of their middle school journey. The joyous ceremony featured speeches by classmates and a performance by the jazz band (Instagram video post courtesy of PEF).

This year’s event featured assigned seating. Masks, physical distancing between family groups, and health screening were required to attend. Although the traditional gathering on the football field was forgone, the students ended the year with a taste of almost-normal. (The state of California’s move to fully reopen on June 15 comes just a tad too late to have an impact on this year’s graduation planning.)

Families were assigned seats alphabetically and strips of blue tape kept groups apart.

We’ll feature photos from the Millennium and Piedmont High School graduations next week.
