The annual White Elephant Sale to benefit the Oakland Museum of California is going virtual this year.
The event, billed as Northern California’s oldest and largest rummage sale, has been hosted by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board for 62 years and normally attracts thousands of bargain hunters over three days in early March at the board’s 100,000-square-foot warehouse at 333 Lancaster St. in Oakland.
This year the sale will be held in late spring (actual dates still to be announced), with sale items listed online.
“You’ll be able to choose from thousands of fabulous items in the safety and comfort of your own home without facing crowds or long checkout lines. What could be better?” event organizers said in an announcement. “We’re selecting the very best items to offer our online shoppers.”
Donations of gently used items for this year’s sale are being accepted for pickup by the White Elephant Sale, “But because the online sale will be smaller than the warehouse sale, we simply can’t accept as many donations as we normally do,” organizers cautioned.
A list of items the sale cannot accept is online. After checking the list, donors can call 510-839-5919 to schedule a pickup.
Items purchased from the online sale must be picked up at the Lancaster Street warehouse. No packing or shipping will be available.
