Piedmont High School’s mountain bike team will host its first annual Piedmont MTB Classic race from March 7 – 21 and registrations are now open to the public. (Sign up HERE.) All proceeds will support the team, which receives no support from the high school or Piedmont Boosters because of its club status.
The event will take place over a two-week period so that every racer can independently participate on their own time, thus making it a socially distanced, safe event. Each participant will record their times on designated trail segments using the Strava app, and prizes will be awarded for the fastest entrants in a number of categories: Middle School, High School, Adult and Overall. There will be two options for the race, the Short Course and the Long Course. The short course covers just over 9 miles of trail, and an elevation gain of approximately 900 feet. The Long Course covers 15 miles and 2,500 feet of elevation gain.
Cost to participate is $40 and race proceeds will be used to purchase a team trailer. The trailer, which helps transport equipment to season races, will be dedicated to Lynden McLaughlan, a team coach who passed away unexpectedly in 2019.
