Letter to the Editor | Sort through the noise

Congratulations to our newly elected, newly re-elected and already seated school board members. Thank you for your commitment. As I was taking my umpteenth Covid walk, I couldn’t help noticing how many Giving Campaign signs dot the route (I know PEF would always like to plant more). The support the schools garner all over town amazes me and makes me proud of our community.

This year has been challenging on a number of fronts and none more than decisions and choices which confront the school board regarding the coronavirus. The current board with its two new members and three returning will be grappling with these and other perplexing issues over their terms.

Here’s my advice: listen and learn, engage and educate.

Balance the needs and interests of our constituents and display the judgement you were elected to exercise on our behalf.  There may be dissenting voices and unhappy individuals but there are many more supporting the decisions you’ll need to make.

You’ve been elected to sort through the conflicts and the noise to find the best solutions for our kids and our community.

Don’t forget, the town has been and continues to be behind you. Good luck, be well and stay strong.
