The Blotter | Hit-and-run driver flees on foot

A driver of a Ford Explorer was involved in a hit-and-run accident on October 21 and fled the scene. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-8 white male wearing a baseball cap.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 p.m. The red Explorer was traveling eastbound on Rose Avenue and struck a parked silver Highlander, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. The driver then fled in the direction of Pleasant Valley Avenue. An area check came up negative.

The Explorer was towed and stored. Follow up on the matter is in progress.

A car was stolen on October 21 on Sea View Avenue. At about 6:10 p.m., a gray 2013 Fiat 500 was stolen from in front of the victim’s residence. According to the city’s Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR), the car was apparently stolen around 4:15 p.m. There is no further information.

A stolen duffel bag was recovered on October 20, however a second bag stolen in the same incident has not been recovered. The bags were taken from the victim’s car the day before. The recovered bag was found in the roadway on Mountain Avenue. The second bag has clothes and boots in it.

A stolen backpack was recovered from a separate incident. The backpack was stolen from the Safeway on Grand Avenue on October 21. It was thrown from a car on Grand and it was brought to the police station. Officer Germano was able to locate the owner. No items had been removed.
