Letter to the Editor | Smegal is model public servant

Dear Fellow Piedmonters,

We are fortunate to have had Cory Smegal as a School Board Member for the last four years, and I am even more grateful she is willing to serve another term.  Cory is the consummate public servant – conscientious, fiscally responsible, dedicated, and a creative problem solver.

Since Board Meetings have been on zoom, I have watched Cory advocate for students first.  Her student centered perspective focuses on their mental health and safety during this unprecedented time. This summer, Cory provided strong board leadership to advocate for in-person instruction until this option was no longer feasible due to state mandates.

As an incumbent, Cory knows how to work with administrators, faculty, and families to promote excellence in public education.  She has represented Piedmont in Sacramento to advocate for state funding and academic standards.  Cory understands the fiduciary responsibilities of the Board and provides strategic leadership to ensure academic excellence.

In conclusion, it has been a privilege to work with Cory on Parent Club Boards from Wildwood through Middle and High School.  Over the years, we have volunteered together on the Giving Campaign, PMS Site Council, Boy Scouts, PBSF, and varsity football.  There is no job too big or too small for Cory to take on – with a “can do” attitude and a smile.  Cory’s love for our community, enthusiasm, and positive mindset make her a joy to work with.

I hope you will join me in voting for Cory Smegal so she can continue the mission of PUSD.

Go Highlanders!
