From the Bay Area Book Festival folks who brought us the #UnBound series of virtual literary events last May now comes a smaller, but possibly quite potent mini-fest called Berkeley#Unbound, airing on our digital screens Oct. 3 and 4.

The seven hourlong “conversations” that take place on the second day are all free, but the star-studded kickoff event from 7 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 brings us, for a $10 registration fee, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, not a guy known for keeping his political opinions to himself, in conversation with upstart comedian and author W. Kamau Bell, host and producer of CNN’s “United Shades of America.” Moderating the exchange between these two on the topic of “Politics, Race and the State of Play in Our Nation” will be U.C. psychology professor Dacher Keltner, author and director of the Greater Good Science Center, so I’m sure we can expect the proceedings to be both lively and congenial.

Sunday’s events, two of them aimed at young people, are themed around social justice, inclusiveness and activism and will feature presenters such as well-known Berkeleyites author Arlie Hochschild, food maven Alice Waters and novelist Shanthi Sekaran. The fest winds up at 5 p.m. Oct. 4 with “How the Constitution Can Save Us,” with U.C. Berkeley ldaw school dean Erwin Chemerinsky in conversation with U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee.
