Next Wednesday, July 29, the Oakland Zoo will open their gates once more. To celebrate — and in search of a much needed financial boost — the Zoo is hosting a virtual FUNdraiser, Lollapa Zoola this Saturday at 7 PM.
The zoo has been closed since March when the coronavirus SIP went into effect, and has been at risk of closing permanently due to the ensuing financial losses. “The closure has been difficult for us, and we’re hopeful that the coming months will help restore the Zoo’s financial health to what it was before the closure.” said Nik Dehejia, CFO & Executive Vice President of Oakland Zoo.
“Get ready for a wild time! Join us for LollapaZOOla, a virtual reopening celebration where we’ll be raising much-needed funds for Oakland Zoo. We received $500,000 from a generous anonymous donor, and with your help, we’re aiming to raise $500,000 more!”

With a goal to raised $500,000, the event will feature an interactive online auction and include guest speakers such as Oakland Zoo’s CEO Dr. Parrott and Golden State Warriors’ hype man, Franco Finn.
Attendance is free, and guests are encouraged to bid on auction items, which include (live and virtual) animal meet and greets, wine packages, art, and much more.
They can also contribute to the Fund-A-Need campaign in order to donate to a specific cause, such as feeding the Zoo’s Lucha Jaguar.
