EBMUD

“Find out what happens after dirty water from your toilet, shower and laundry goes down the drain — take a tour of EBMUD’s Wastewater Treatment Plant,” reads the copy on the East Bay Municipal Utilities District website.

After having to suspend walking tours of the plant due to the pandemic, EBMUD is pivoting to online tours. In a recent email, the agency said it is offering tours on the following dates:

  • Monday 7/20, 2pm-3pm
  • Wednesday 7/22, 10am-11am
  • Wednesday 7/29, 6pm-7pm
  • Thursday 7/30, 2pm-3pm

Resident tours are offered periodically and you can register here.

EBMUD says you can expect the following:

  • The virtual tour will be hosted through an online meeting platform and will be presented in the form of a power point.
  • The virtual tour will cover the following topics and more: What is wastewater, why is wastewater treatment important, how is wastewater treated, careers at EBMUD.
  • Participants are encouraged to use the chat or voice features to ask questions and participate in the presentation.
  • We hope this virtual tour will introduce participants to the fascinating world of wastewater treatment and encourage you to one day take a walking tour of EBMUD’s Wastewater Treatment Plant in West Oakland.
