Bay Area coronavirus updates | Wed., July 22

The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Wednesday afternoon include:

  • A Walnut Creek skilled nursing facility is dealing with a COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak that as of Tuesday night has left 12 residents dead and a total of 92 residents and 38 staff testing positive. Twenty-five residents of ManorCare Health Services-Tice Valley were still being treated for COVID-19-related symptoms as of Tuesday night, according to figures supplied by the California Department of Public Health, the regulatory and oversight body for skilled nursing facilities.
  • The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Wednesday that San Quentin State Prison inmate John Beames has died, potentially due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. He was 67. Beames was pronounced dead Tuesday at an outside hospital, according to the CDCR. His exact cause of death is still pending a coroner’s report, but CDCR officials said he died due to complications from the virus.
  • Officials with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced Monday the agency is bringing back several bus lines that have been out of service since March due to COVID-19. With modified Muni Metro service being restored in August, several changes will also be made to bus lines starting on Aug. 22, including some lines being extended while others are being completely restored. Lines being restored include 7-Haight-Noriega, 37-Corbett, 45-Union Stockton, 48-Quintara, and 67-Bernal Heights. Lines being extended include 12-Pacific Community Shuttle, 30-Stockton, 44-O’Shaugnessy, and 54-Felton.
  • As of Wednesday at 3 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases around the greater Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Tue., July 21):
    • Alameda County: 9,643 cases (+260), 171 deaths (+4)
      • Totals include Berkeley Health Department data
    • Contra Costa County: 6,202 cases (+271), 102 deaths
    • Marin County: 4,428 cases (+49), 48 deaths (+4)
      • Totals include San Quentin State Prison
    • Monterey County: 3,545 cases (+166), 21 deaths
    • Napa County: 685 cases (+24), 7 deaths
    • San Francisco County: 5,459 cases (+96), 53 deaths
    • San Mateo County: 4,776 cases (+102), 114 deaths
    • Santa Clara County: 8,321 cases (+275), 180 deaths (+2)
    • Santa Cruz County: 848 cases (+18), 3 deaths
    • Solano County: 2,857 cases (+98), 35 deaths (+1)
    • Sonoma County: 2,241 cases (+29), 22 deaths (+2)
    • Statewide: 413,576 cases (+12,807), 7,870 deaths (+115)
