Bay Area coronavirus updates | Tue., July 7

The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Tuesday afternoon include:

  • Santa Clara County received state approval for a variance on Tuesday that will allow some business sectors to reopen and restaurants to continue outdoor dining. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department worked closely with the state over the weekend after the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control gave notices to cease outdoor dining to restaurants in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and San Jose.
  • Pleasant Hill is launching a new temporary library on July 14 in the City Hall Community Rooms, providing patrons a safe contact-less way to pick up materials from Monday to Saturday amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Patrons are now able to place holds on materials, and from July 14 will be able to schedule pick-up appointments after receiving confirmation that their holds have arrived at the temporary site at at 100 Gregory Lane.
  • San Leandro Public Library patrons can now pick up library materials they check out during the COVID-19 pandemic by following five steps, library officials said Monday. Pickup is offered Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the main library branch at 300 Estudillo Ave.
  • The city of San Francisco will launch a pop-up COVID-19 testing site on Tuesday in the Tenderloin neighborhood, providing free testing for some of the city’s most needy residents. The testing will be done at a parking lot adjacent to 330 Ellis St. on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • As of Tuesday at 2 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases around the greater Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Mon., July 6):
    • Alameda County: 6,887 cases (+32), 140 deaths
    • Contra Costa County: 4,092 cases (+214), 86 deaths (+1)
    • Marin County: 2,905 cases (+38), 25 deaths
    • Monterey County: 2,239 cases (+88), 17 deaths (+2)
    • Napa County: 448 cases (+12), 4 deaths
    • San Francisco County: 4,020 cases (+28), 50 deaths
    • San Mateo County: 3,692 cases (+133), 111 deaths (+3)
    • Santa Clara County: 5,478 cases (70), 165 deaths (+1)
    • Santa Cruz County: 501 cases (+42), 3 deaths
    • Solano County: 1,740 cases (+264), 25 deaths
    • Sonoma County: 1,466 cases (+107), 12 deaths (+1)
    • Statewide: 277,774 cases (+6,090), 6,448 deaths (+111)
