Students organize “Piedmont Action Hour” to address educational inequity in Oakland vs. Piedmont

We are a group of college students from Piedmont working to build a campaign with the mission to break down historical borders between Oakland and Piedmont that often manifest in the form of inequitable educational resources for OUSD.

Are you a current PHS student or alum? Do you see how the Piedmont community benefits from systemic inequalities? Are you passionate about #BlacksLivesMatter and looking for an avenue to use Piedmont’s privilege and resources to make a REAL difference?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, KEEP READING.

We are POPS (Piedmont for Oakland Public Schools) and we would like to invite you and your parents to our campaign launch event on Thursday, June 18 at 6 PM over Zoom.

We will hear from speakers from the organizations POPS is donating to (the State of Black Education, The Black Organizing Project, and Planting Justice) along with some community voices.

We believe Piedmont must take long-term action to solve issues that deeply affect our community, and have created the Piedmont donation and action hub website. Funds raised will go to the Black Organizing Project, State of Black Education, Planting Justice. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to split evenly between the organizations.

All donations are tax deductible thanks to our fiscal sponsor: the Oakland Ed Fund.
