Bay Area coronavirus updates | Sat., June 6

The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Saturday afternoon include:

  • Starting Monday, Alameda County residents can gather in “social bubbles,” and childcare providers and some businesses can resume operations under certain conditions, health officials announced this week.
  • A drive-through emergency food distribution site is now open two days a week at the Alameda County Fairgrounds at 4501 Pleasanton Ave. in Pleasanton. The location is the second in the county and extends efforts to reach families suffering during the novel coronavirus health emergency.
  • Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools Mary Ann Dewan said Friday that the district would need both state and local assistance, not only in acquiring protective equipment but also in maintaining uncovered costs for certain educational programs and after-school childcare as schools begin to reopen later this year, Dewan said.
  • As of 3 p.m. Saturday, officials have confirmed the following number of cases in the Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Fri., June 5):
    • Alameda County: 3,805 cases (+80), 101 deaths
    • Contra Costa County: 1,633 cases (+66), 38 deaths
    • Marin County: 551 cases (+21), 17 deaths
    • Monterey County: 667 cases (+27), 10 deaths
    • Napa County: 129 cases, 3 deaths
    • San Francisco County: 2,712 cases (+78), 43 deaths
    • San Mateo County: 2,330 cases (+1), 88 deaths
    • Santa Clara County: 2,920 cases (+28), 143 deaths (+1))
    • Santa Cruz County: 226 cases (+5), 2 deaths
    • Solano County: 566 cases (+1), 23 deaths (+1)
    • Sonoma County: 624 cases (+14), 4 deaths
    • Statewide: 126,016 cases (+3,115), 4,559 deaths (+74)
