Bay Area coronavirus updates | Mon., June 15

The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Monday afternoon include:

  • A restaurant owner in Carmel-by-the-Sea has agreed to pay $15,000 in civil penalties after being criminally charged last month for violating state and local health orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Monterey County prosecutors said Monday.
  • The San Jose Public Library is announcing its new contactless service that allows library members to place requests and borrow physical items from the library’s catalog. The library’s last day of operations was on March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, members have not had access to physical items from the library.
  • Safari West, a 400-acre private wildlife preserve and breeding facility 12 miles north of Santa Rosa in unincorporated Sonoma County, is set to reopen to the public June 20, having been shut down since the county’s first shelter-in-place order of March 17.
  • San Carlos has approved a program that will allow outdoor dining and retail services in the parking area of portions of Laurel Street and San Carlos Avenue, allowed under San Mateo County’s revised novel coronavirus shelter order.
  • The Berkeley health officer is prepared to allow indoor and outdoor retail, religious services, outdoor restaurant dining, outdoor museums, and outdoor fitness classes to open by Friday if cases and hospitalization figures stay stable, the city said.
  • As of Monday at 2 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases around the greater Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Sat., June 13):
    • Alameda County: 4,373 cases (+157), 112 deaths (+3) (“+” number added since last check Fri., June 12)
    • Contra Costa County: 1,983 cases (+62), 44 deaths
    • Marin County: 730 cases (+54), 17 deaths
    • Monterey County: 995 cases (+130), 12 deaths (+1)
    • Napa County: 190 cases (+28), 3 deaths
    • San Francisco County: 2,952 cases (+46), 46 deaths (+2)
    • San Mateo County: 2,594 cases (+41), 99 deaths
    • Santa Clara County: 3,230 cases (+73), 151 deaths (+1)
    • Santa Cruz County: 257 cases (+2), 2 deaths
    • Solano County: 657 cases, 23 deaths
    • Sonoma County: 758 cases (+36), 4 deaths
    • Statewide: 151,452 cases (+5809), 5,089 deaths (+100)
