  1. I hope everyone will vote for the amendments to the original Prop 13 which was passed in 1978 to disastrous effect. This CA initiative will roll back the breaks that were given to large corporations and commercial and industrial properties, giving them the same property tax breaks that homeowners received. This initiative will not change anything for homeowners but the CA corporations have had an unnecessary benefit for far too long and at the expense of our schools. I live in Piedmont now but my kids went to public schools in Berkeley and I saw the schools slowly fall below standard as the surpluses dwindled. And CA education excellence (near the top of the nation) dropped dramatically. If this initiative passes in Nov, it will bring 10 Billion dollars into the school systems of CA at a time when our state is anticipating budget cuts due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. I’m a member of the CA League of Women Voters which is a non-partisan organization that researches extensively what the best choices are for California. In other words, this is not a dem vs rep issue. The issue is how do we value our children’s education! https://ballotpedia.org/California_Tax_on_Commercial_and_Industrial_Properties_for_Education_and_Local_Government_Funding_Initiative_(2020)
