Rec Dept announces plan for summer camps

Julie Reichle

The Piedmont Recreation Department building is one of the city's aging facilities that will be featured on the tours.

Finally an update! It’s our strong desire to bring Camp to our community this Summer in a manner that keeps our campers, families and staff safe. We know our families need what we provide more than ever.

We’d like to thank you for your patience as we work together through this unprecedented time to re-design all of our summer camp programming. With federal, state, and county guidelines changing frequently, we are approaching summer planning one month at a time. Here’s the plan:

June:

With some exceptions, the majority of week-long camps for the month of June are unfortunately cancelled.

This excludes Skipping Stones, Summer Fun, Tiddlywinks, and First Step, and Virtual Programming. These programs are NOT cancelled.

However, we are EXCITED to announce that a new Camp Everything (well almost everything) will open on June 1st!

Along with expanded safety and cleaning procedures, Camp (Almost) Everything will feature stable groups of campers and staff*, socially distanced outdoor activities, games and crafts, and as much fun energy as we can pack into a full-day camp program. The 4-day program will run Monday-Thursday at Hampton Park and the 2-day programs will be held at Linda Beach. There are two, 2-day program options available either Mon/Tues or Wed/Thur. All camps will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

PLEASE NOTE:
1) Disclaimer: Due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, all programs are subject to change or Cancellation.*
2) Maximum 12 children per group. You may request up to 3 friends for your group during registration.

Resident Registration for the new Camp (Almost) Everything opens Thursday, May 21st at 12:00 am, with non-resident registration opening Tuesday, May 26th at 12:00 am. You will be able to register online: Camp (almost) Everything

Registration will be available in either two or four week sessions (June 1st-June 12th OR June 1st-June 29th) depending on county requirements for stable groups.

Session length will be based on Alameda County guidelines for “stable groups”, which may require 4-week sessions. When registration opens we will offer either 2-week or 4-week sessions, based on these guidelines.

Registration closes Thursday, May 28th at 4:00 pm.

We understand that committing to camp for 2 or 4 weeks at a time may be unrealistic for some families, so we are issuing credits for all cancelled June camp registrations beginning Monday May 18th. You must re-register for all camps this summer including Camp (Almost) Everything.

July/August:

Camp Everything will be offered in 2 or 4 week sessions beginning July 6th. No camp June 29th-July 3rd.

In July, along with Camp (Almost) Everything, we plan to offer virtual camps/classes and hope to offer more contract camps as well. If you have registered for a July/August Camp or program that we are unable to provide, we will issue a credit to your account beginning the week of June 15th.

Refunds:

*Beginning May 27th, if you would like to request a refund instead of a credit for any summer enrollment please contact prdrefunds@piedmont.ca.gov. Please provide the name of your child(ren) and the camp/program that was cancelled.

If you have questions or need more information, please call the Recreation Department at (510) 420-3070 or email prd@piedmont.ca.gov.

Jr CIT 2020 Update
We know many of you took the time to complete the application and were looking forward to working with us this summer but unfortunately PRD will not be able to offer the program this summer.
