In order to comply with the Bay Area’s expanded stay-at-home order in response to the novel COVID-19 pandemic, the East Bay Regional Park District has closed the Point Isabel dog park until further notice.
The park district had already closed many of its parks and trails including all picnic areas, restrooms, water fountains, swimming facilities, playgrounds, campgrounds, group campsites, backcountry campsites, sports fields, kiosks and reservable facilities, according to district officials.
On Tuesday, several Bay Area governments extended their stay-at-home orders through May 3 to try to limit the spread of the virus. The extension includes the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara, as well as the city of Berkeley. The extended order also updated the types of public spaces and businesses that are allowed to remain open during the shutdown and requires the closure of “recreational areas with high touch equipment or that encourage gathering, including but not limited to playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, picnic areas, dog parks, and barbeque areas.”
The park district operates 73 parks, 55 miles of shoreline and more than 1,300 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and environmental education and hosts more than 25 million visitors a year, primarily in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
