After 63 years, sporting goods store Montclair Sports will be shutting its doors for good on April 30, 2020. The small store on Mountain Boulevard is a beloved institution in Montclair Village. Its multi-generational clientele appreciated the family-owned business’s friendly service and wide selection of sporting goods and clothing.
“It is with mixed emotions that we bring you this news, but for many reasons we feel the time is right,” said owner Tom Revelli in a letter to his many customers. “We invite you to stop by over the next two months, whether to partake in our close out sale or just to say goodbye and share a few stories.”
Piedmont realtor Matt Heafey was saddened to hear of the news. “Tom gave me my first job. I had been going there and buying tennis shoes and ski equipment from the time I was a kid,” he told Exedra. “I spent many days after school and weekends at the store and full-time in the summer. Tom’s a great friend and an unbelievably hard worker — in the store 7 days a week for 10+ hours a day.”
The Montclair Village Association posted the following notice on their social media account:
“Truly an institution, Montclair-Sports Oakland set the bar for customer service, community involvement and an amazing inventory! They will be missed tremendously but have earned a well deserved retirement.”
Revelli is also the father of music instructor and Havens elementary teacher Shauna Revelli.
