Officials with Contra Costa Health Services said Tuesday that a resident of Contra Costa County has COVID-19. This is the first case of coronavirus in the county, health officials said.

The resident is being treated at a county hospital and does not have a travel history that would have put them at risk and did not have contact with a person with the disease.

The resident was tested by staff of the county’s public health lab and the test came back positive Tuesday afternoon. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will check the test results.

A new case surfaced Tuesday in Berkeley and two more cases were reported Tuesday in Santa Clara County. As of 10 a.m. Pacific time Tuesday, 43 people in California had tested positive for the virus, state health officials said.
