Piedmont boys basketball wins Rob Vares Memorial tournament

The Highlanders ran away with the title at the Rob Vares Memorial Tournament in Fremont, beating Santa Clara in the championship, 75-44. The tournament was hosted by Washington-Fremont from December 12-14.

Piedmont beats Santa Clara to win tournament

Luke Barrett was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Jojo Murphy and Luke Harris

Barrett scored 19 points in the championship game and 50 in the three games. He scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the semifinals, an 80-65 win over host Washington. Barrett also had five assists in that game.

The Highlanders opened the tournament with a 72-56 win over El Camino. Harris led the way with 18 points. Barrett had 10 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Paul Davies had 10 points and two blocks in the win, and DaRon Benson came off the bench for eight points and six steals.

Piedmont built a 67-34 lead late in the third quarter before cruising home.

In the semifinals, Harris scored 20 and Murphy had 17. Davies notched 10 points.

The Highlanders took control of the game when they outscored Washington 32-19 in the third quarter.

In the championship game against Santa Clara, Piedmont jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter. Harris scored 16 and David Kisieu contributed 10 points.

The Highlanders are now 8-1 on the season. They travel to Lafayette on December 21 to face the Bentley School.
