Sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on global matters and is set to take place from May 20 – July 30. In anticipation of the May-July program, Piedmont LWV will host a series of eight meetings, lasting approximately two hours each. Participants receive a Foreign Policy Association briefing book which provides background and context for group discussion. Each session starts with an insightful video created by the Foreign Policy Association, followed by a lively discussion of the week’s topic.
When & Where
The program offers two sessions, each meeting twice a month — either every other Wednesday evening OR every other Thursday afternoon. Participants can attend either session.
- Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 pm | From February 12 – May 20 | 40 Highland Avenue
- Thursday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00 pm | From February 13 – May 21 | Piedmont Police Department Conference Room, 403 Highland Avenue
Chosen by a panel of foreign policy experts, this year’s topics are:
- Climate Change and the Global Order
- India and Pakistan
- Red Sea Security
- Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
- S. Relations with the Northern Triangle
- China’s Road into Latin America
- The Philippines and the U.S.
- Artificial Intelligence and Data
Last year’s Great Decisions program attracted 60 participants, nearly twice as many as in the past. This, perhaps, says something about the state of the world and how global affairs have become important to so many. Learn more about the 2020 topics HERE.
Great Decisions is open to all. You do not need to be a member of the League to join in. Briefing books are now available for pick-up at 40 Highland Ave., Piedmont. Please sign the sheet when you pick up a book and leave a check in the envelop if you have not previously paid.
