On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Superintendent Randy Booker notified PUSD families that Piedmont schools are not expected to be affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff scheduled throughout the Bay Area on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. As of 4:30 p.m. Tues. afternoon, Piedmont schools will be open, but the district will continue to monitor the situation.
If power goes out during the day, “we will continue to hold students in schools until the release bell. Schoolmates will also continue to operate (without power) that afternoon,” the letter says.
The letter also notes the following:
- Staff and students who live in neighboring communities may be impacted by a power outage even if Piedmont schools are not. This may impact their ability to complete homework or study for any scheduled exams. It may also impact their ability to get ready for school on time.
- Students should plan on packing a lunch for school on Wednesday in the event that we end up losing power in the middle of the day and cannot facilitate hot lunches.
- If power is lost in Piedmont, traffic lights will not be operational, so please drive extremely carefully.
