The Highlanders split a pair of matches, shutting out Mt. Eden before falling to Berkeley.
On October 22, the Highlanders traveled to Mt. Eden and shut out the Monarchs, 7-0. Bridgette McEfee defeated Scarlett Mason in the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Amanda Becker had a similar outcome at No. 2, beating Lisa Wong, 6-1, 6-0. Audrey Mahany won the No. 3 singles over Briana Gonzales, 6-0, 6-0. Anne Jumper beat Meredith Mendoza at No. 4, also by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
In doubles, the results were the same. The Highlanders No. 1 team of Michaela Bini and Mara LaForte beat Maggie Chea and Abby Manaloysay, 6-0, 6-0.
Four junior varsity players moved up to play the other two doubles matches. At No. 2, it was Kate Dorman and Rosie Siemers downing Jennifer Lien and Dianna Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0. Kaelli Huh and Maya Stewart beat Maya Autoy and Amanda Novoa at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.
On October 24, Piedmont hosted Berkeley and fell, 5-2. The Yellowjackets swept the singles matches, while the Highlanders took two out of three in doubles.
Audrey Call and Marlowe McEfee teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match for Piedmont, defeating Zo Pancoast and Leah Wildman, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2, Amanda Becker and Lily Orta beat Berkeley’s Magda Frigo and Andrea Morales-Menzoza, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4. In the No. 3 doubles match, the Yellowjackets’ Lydia Schragl and Sofia Labra beat Austen Elvekrog and Maddie Young, 6-1, 6-2.
Solia Valentine of Berkeley beat Audrey Edel at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Sarah Bruno won the No. 2 match over Bridgette McEfee, 6-1, 6-2. Maya Curry beat LaForte at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Maya Ng-Yu defeated Mahany at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2.
Piedmont will host Alameda on October 29, then concludes the regular season on November 5 at Castro Valley.
