Piedmont Ladies’ Tennis Club (PLTC) annual Fall Doubles Tennis Tournament took place October 7 on the newly refurbished courts of The Corey Reich Tennis Center.

As the the PLTC was a generous donor to the new courts, the tournament was especially meaningful to the ladies. Lisa Taylor and Shirley Lee organized this year’s tournament. Six teams were put together with one A ladder player and one B ladder player. Each team played five rounds consisting of seven no-ad games, for a total of 35 games.

After working up a hearty appetite, players enjoyed a lovely lunch catered by Mulberry’s Market, which was organized by PLTC Hospitality Chair Cathy Papahadjopoulos.

Highlights of the tournament included daring drop shots by Ann Binning and Shirley Lee; gazelle-like running to every ball by Valerie Puscaciu and Julie Walsh; uncanny ability to keep the ball in play by Lisa Taylor and Flo Haedt; perfect ball placement by Lynn Nelson and Beth Hurwich; super strong and steady play by Wanda Rudsits and Sharon Huff Robinson; and Serena-like power serves by Heidi Harris and Stephanie Bianco.

Tournament Results:

  • Wanda Rudsits & Sharon Huff Robinson–1st place winners with 23 wins
  • Ann Binning & Shirley Lee–2nd place winners with 21 wins
  • Julie Walsh & Valerie Puscaciu–3rd place winners with 16 wins
