Piedmont tennis wins two matches

The Highlanders won a pair of West Alameda County League matches, defeating San Leandro 7-0 on the road on September 17, and Encinal 5-2 at home on September 19. As coach Jim Landes quipped, “the natural order of the world is restored.”

Against the Pirates in San Leandro, Emily Becker defeated Natalie Tsubamoto in the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-4. Bridgette McEffee won a tight match at No. 2 singles, downing San Leandro’s Michelle Tat, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. Audrey Call also prevailed in three sets over Ronnette Tolentino at No. 3 singles, 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-5. Hannah Ferguson breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Terry Chen at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, the Highlanders didn’t drop a set. Amanda Becker and Lily Orta teamed to defeat Jasmine Le and Trinh Vo, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. At No. 2, Maddie Young and Austen Elvekrog beat Paula Chen and Jessica Tsubamoto, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3, Audrey Mahany and Mara LaForte lost only one game to Tina Fang and Sherlyn Villegas

Against the Jets, Piedmont lost the top two singles in tough matches, but swept the rest. Encinal’s Isabelle Brown-Lyden beat Emily Becker at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 10-2. Audrey Edel lost to Angln Geritz at No. 2, 6 – 1, 7 – 6 (5). At No. 3 singles, McEffee dominated Audrey Wismar, 6-1, 6-0. Ferguson again won easily at No. 4 over Kisa Iacona, 6-1, 6-1.

Amanda Becker and Orta again teamed up at No. 1 doubles, this time defeating Clara Yoo and Kayla Ngai, 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 Morgan Bouch and Austen Elvekrog dominated against Kaili Geritz and Jess Drake, winning 6 – 1, 6 – 1 And at No. 3, Mara LaForte and Audrey Mahany beat Olivia Grassman and Jyosna Jassou, 6-2, 6-1.

Piedmont plays next on October 1 at Arroyo and on October 3 at Alameda.
