Piedmont golf loses close match

Golf team (l-r): Madeleine Meaux, Emily Adams, Maddy Schaefer, Alyssa Moore, Payton Morell, Abigail Drake and Coach Howard Oliver

The Highlanders traveled to the Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland on September 12 to face Bishop O’Dowd.

The team’s core four of Emily Adams, Maddy Schaefer, Madeleine Meaux, and Alyssa Moore were joined by junior Annika Nielsen and freshman Rahimeen Shah, both in their first starts of the year, to take on the Dragons.

The 292-315 match was hard fought, with BOD winning the day.

“Our players are starting to buy in,” said Coach Howard Oliver. “In golf, we have to lose with game improvements before we understand how to win with them. Our rotations are rounding out, which will allow our practices to get us more game-day ready.”

  1. Does the team call itself the ‘Lady Highlanders’? Does the guys’ team call itself the ‘Gentlemen Highlanders’? If not, why would the Exedra introduce such bizarre gender-based naming? One of the best outcomes of the athletic uniform redesign of a few years ago was to emphasize that a Highlander is a Highlander is a Highlander.
