Have you walked the lake recently? It’s been a long time coming, but on Monday, June 10, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and other city officials cut the ribbon to unveil the Lakeside Green Street project and reconstruction of Snow Park, a 14-acre park expansion plan with a protected cycle track. The project got underway in 2017 and was funded in part by Measure DD: Oakland Trust for Clean Water and Safe Parks.
Here’s what you’ll see along the lake: an expanded Snow Park and park area around Lake Merritt, a new tree-lined pedestrian promenade, new play structures and putting green, new public art, renovated bathrooms, formalized pathways with benches, a new section of running trail along Lake Merritt an Improved lakeside pedestrian trail, new crosswalks, traffic-calming measures and a protected bike track.
