The Highlanders defeated Bishop O’Dowd 17-5 on May 3 to win the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) championship.
The Highlanders (17-2) enter the North Coast Section (NCS) Division 2 playoffs as the No. 1 seed and will receive a first-round bye.
Piedmont jumped all over the Dragons (12-6) from the get-go. The Highlanders scored the first three goals of the game, with Zoe Torok netting the first, followed by Maria Del Rosario Chan and Lily Keville. Keville ended up scoring three more in the first half and finished the game with five to lead Piedmont. Del Rosario Chan had four goals. Torok and Ellie Cole finished with two apiece. Sadie Tschider had six assists and Widdy Tevis had three.
Goalkeeper Ivy Smith had five saves for the Highlanders.
On May 1, Piedmont won its first round playoff game against Berkeley, 19-3. Torok scored five goals to lead the way. Keville and Tevis each scored three. Tschider recorded five assists. Smith had a quiet night in goal, making two saves.
The Highlanders received the top NCS seed. Since just 15 teams made the bracket, Piedmont is the only team with a bye. The Highlanders will host a second round game on May 9 against the winner of the Head Royce-Casa Grande match held on May 7. Piedmont defeated Head Royce early in the season, 14-8.
The other top seeds are No. 2 San Marin, No. 3 Acalanes and No. 4 Miramonte. The Highlanders beat Acalanes and Miramonte during nonleague play.
