Dozens of friends, community members and former colleagues turned out to honor Cathy Glazier, PUSD volunteer and former art teacher, for her many years of service to the district.
Glazier, named this year’s Arthur Hecht Volunteer of the Year by PUSD, holds a portrait of her late mother drawn by AP art student Elizabeth Winters.
Glazier said she was reluctant to accept an artwork done as a senior project because she knows how personal a creation it is to the artist. Instead, she said, she was inspired to commission a portrait of her recently deceased mother.

Glazier has devoted her time and effort to district needs for more than 30 years, including being a founding board member of the Wellness Center at Piedmont High. She remains an active volunteer in the district and serves on the Piedmont Education Foundation board.
Glazier said she continues to enjoy the work she does on behalf of the district.
