Piedmont boys golf edges Campolindo

The Highlanders hosted Campolindo on April 8 for a non-league competition on Claremont Country Club’s back 9.

Salem and Jackson Cavenaugh stepped into the starting six, joining Henry Lambert, Gavin Kordestani, Cole Canine, and Nate Wilson.

It was a tight match as the two teams traded shots in the one through five slots, with Piedmont winning three and Campo taking the other two. High School golf match rules dictate that the the top five scores (out of six playing) are added together for each team, with the low team total winning the match. In this rare case, the two top-five tallies were tied at 228. The tiebreaker went to the sixth score for each squad, with the Highlanders coming out on top, 52 to 54.

Henry Lambert was the overall medalist, shooting a 3-over 37.

Piedmont upped its record to 8-3 on the season.

The Highlanders will compete in a tournament on April 22, with away matches against San Leandro on April 23 and Miramonte on April 25.
