Arbor Day is this Thursday

Every April, communities throughout the country gather to celebrate Arbor Day, and Piedmont is no exception.

This year’s Arbor Day celebration will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 pm at Piedmont Community Hall.

Following the success of last year, the talk show format will feature Mayor Bob McBain in conversation with this year’s guest, Fire Chief Brett Black. The mayor and fire chief will discuss “Fire and Trees” a subject intended to be both educational as well as topical given the devastation experienced by northern Californians last year. The City will also plant three oak trees in Piedmont Park early Thursday to honor the losses from last year.

Last year’s award-winning trees around town

The second part of the evening’s program will be the announcement of this year’s 2019 Heritage Trees. Commissioners Jim Horner, Robin Wu, and Patty Dunlap recommended five trees (or, groups of trees) at last week’s Park Commission meeting. All five were unanimously selected and the individuals who nominated the trees will be feted with specially created Heritage Tree pins.

Entertainment will be provided by the PHS Jazz Lab Band and PHS Jazz Combo. All are welcome!
