Piedmont boys golf continues strong start

The Piedmont boys golf team took its early season record to a strong 5-1, winning twice along with a forfeit victory before suffering its first loss.

On February 25, Piedmont hosted Bishop O’Dowd and Arroyo (Mt. Eden forfeited as a no-show). Piedmont posted a 208, beating O’Dowd by 7 strokes and the weaker Arroyo team by 71 shots. Past PHS golf coaches and parents remarked that beating O’Dowd is a rare event for Piedmont. Henry Lambert led the way with a strong 36. Nate Wilson posted a 40, Jared Tsukahara a 42, and Cole Canine and Gavin Kordestani both scored 45.

The Highlanders donned the rubber spikes again on March 5, going head-to-head with Bishop O’Dowd at the rival’s home course, Metropolitan Golf Links. O’Dowd eked out a one shot victory, 204-205, despite Gavin Kordestani’s career best 37. Patrick Filler made his first appearance of the season for Piedmont, moving over from the varsity soccer pitch and shooting a solid 40 in his first match.

The team tees it up next at Claremont Country Club on Monday, March 11 in a four-way match against San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Berkeley.
