Guests at the PCA Juried Art Show

Jan. 12 – A lively crowd enjoyed mixing and mingling yesterday evening during the opening reception for the 6th Annual Juried Art Show at the Piedmont Center for the Arts.

Among the guests were PCA Board President Sue Malick who expressed the sense of pride the PCA board members feel that Piedmont is becoming known in the Bay Area for its connection to the arts, and particularly for the center’s reach among Bay Area artists.

PCA Board members Cawley Crocker and Wendy Willrich both enjoyed this year’s art selections and were impressed by the number of art works submitted (over 650 works by around 225 artists) and were appreciative of the high quality of the jurors.

The event was hosted by PCA board member and Program Manager, Valerie Corvin.  The crowd was at its peak when Corvin took the stage to present prizes to the artists and introduce the show’s jurors, Carin Adams, Curator of Art at the Oakland Museum of California and Nancy Lim, Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Juror Nancy Lim spoke of the high level of skill evident in the art entries and described the difficulty of choosing which pieces to include in the show. Both Lim and Juror Carin Adams expressed their enjoyment in being part of Piedmont’s Juried Art Show and in being able to view the submitted art works.

By 8:00 pm visitors were still enthusiastically circulating through the show, stopping to peer closely at details and standing back to gain a better view.  One attendee remarked that the jurors must have used a standard of technical ability when making their selections, as so many works included elements of precision, regardless of medium.

The show includes a sophisticated mix of watercolor, etching, collage, sculpture, drawing and painting pieces and offers the viewer opportunities for a range of responses.

The show will be up through January 27, with gallery hours 12 noon – 3:00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays.
