Welcome to The Piedmont Exedra, a free online, hyperlocal, independent news site created by a group of dedicated volunteers in Piedmont with backgrounds in journalism, business, and civic leadership.
The site will feature a mix of news and community contributions. “We are excited to share this project with the community and look forward to building a robust online gathering place for our town,” said founding member Eric Sullivan. “We think Piedmont is hungry for online news, but really the driving force behind our motivation was to find new ways to strengthen our sense of connectedness. We are a community of inquiring minds and the Piedmont Exedra can help bring us together to share news of each other, our friends, our neighbors, our schools, our city, our elected officials and the world around us.”
In addition to its own freelance reporters, Piedmont Exedra will draw on a variety of news sources such as Bay City News, The Daily Californian (UC Berkeley), CalMatters, EdSource, and the Piedmont High School Highlander newspaper. The Exedra strives to present diverse voices on civic issues and local news and welcomes article and event submissions from current and former Piedmont residents. Piedmont Exedra will allow registered members of the site to comment on articles and blog posts. Registered members may also submit events to our community calendar.
Startup costs for this community project have been donated by benefactors, more than thirty families and individuals who have championed this cause and given generously of time, talent and treasure. The site is owned by Piedmont Exedra, SPC (Social Purpose Corporation), a new type of corporation authorized by the State of California for businesses that serve the public good.
