Transitioning to High School & Beyond: A Special Education Roadmap

This workshop is for any parent of a student with learning differences, who wants to learn more about the road from middle school to high school and beyond.

PUSD Program Specialist Carrie Poole will facilitate lively group discussions on the ways that parents can prepare themselves for a future full of unknowns.

• What expectations are realistic?
• What are some of the educational and employment alternatives for students not headed directly to a university?
• How can we support a student in developing independence skills?

She will also provide practical information on topics such as “accommodations” vs. “modifications” to the curriculum, how these changes affect graduation requirements, and the difference between a diploma and a certificate of completion.
