The Geminids, dubbed “one of the best and most reliable annual meteor showers” by NASA, are back, and Chabot Space & Science Center is offering night owls the opportunity to view them from (very) late Wednesday evening.
From the center’s website:
The Geminids, named for the radiant or location where the shower appears to originate, is one of the best meteor showers to catch this year. The culprit and source of the shower is Asteroid 3200 Phaethon, a small asteroid about 3.17 miles (5.10 kilometers) across.
A cloud cover forecast published by the East Bay Astronomical Society promises decently clear skies, with conditions getting even better after midnight.
Tickets are available online HERE. Perhaps no surprise is the recommendation to wear warm clothing and bring any blankets, chairs, or sleeping bags you might need to be comfortable.
