The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Wednesday afternoon include:
- School districts in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara and San Francisco counties announced Tuesday that all of their campuses will remain closed though the end of the school year as a result of the region’s response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
- Santa Cruz County will close its parks and beaches for a week starting Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. after crowds have gathered there recently despite the statewide shelter-in-place order to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
- A dozen staff members of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office have tested positive for the coronavirus, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday. Of those infected, two deputies have recovered from illness and are back to work, and the other 10 are self-quarantining at home.
- Santa Clara County has contributed a decontamination site for first responders to use after possible exposure to the novel coronavirus. The site, located at the county’s Richey Training Center at 155 W. Hedding St. in San Jose, is open 24 hours per day to all law enforcement, first responders and essential medical service workers.
- As of Wednesday at 2 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases in the greater Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Tue., Apr. 7):
- Alameda County: 674 cases (+40), 16 deaths (+1)
- Contra Costa County: 462 cases (+20), 7 deaths
- Marin County: 148 cases (+5), 10 deaths (+1)
- Monterey County: 64 cases (+1), 2 deaths
- Napa County: 25 cases (+2), 2 deaths
- San Francisco County: 676 cases (+54), 10 deaths (+1)
- San Mateo County: 617 cases (+28), 21 deaths
- Santa Clara County: 1,380 cases (+95), 46 deaths (+3)
- Santa Cruz County: 76 cases (+5), 1 death
- Solano County: 99 cases (+11), 2 deaths (+1)
- Sonoma County: 120 cases (+5), 1 death
- Statewide: 16,957 cases (+1,092), 442 deaths (+68)
