The Calfornia Franchise Tax Board has postponed the deadline for filing tax protests, appeals and refund claims due to the novel coronavirus pandemic until mid-July.
State Controller and Franchise Tax Board Chair Betty Yee announced the deadline extension Monday, a few weeks after Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order to “provide extensions of time to individuals and businesses affected by complying with state and local public health officials’ imposition or recommendation of social distancing measures related to COVID-19.”
Among the items the new deadline applies to filing, payment, audits, billing, notices, assessments and claims for refunds. It also gives taxpayers relief from penalties and interest.
