The Montclair Clippers 2013 Girls Red soccer team is 2-for-2 on tournament titles during the early spring season.
Jenna Norris scored two second half goals on assists from Ellie Jordan, and the defense including goalie Mailey Small played well as Montclair beat the Arizona Surf Phoenix 2-0 in the finals of the Phoenix Cup in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Clippers did not concede a goal in four games over the three-day tournament played at the Scottsdale Sports Complex at the end of March.
Montclair beat the Surf 4-0 in its opening game on March 24. Jordan scored twice and Norris and Georgia Robison also scored in the win.
On March 25, the Clippers beat CCV Stars 13 Sur-Surprise Arizona 1-0 on a goal by Jordan. Montclair then beat Sierra Vista SC Romo 2-0 later in the day on goals from Norris and Jordan.
The win over SC Romo helped the Clippers win their bracket and set up the championship game against the Phoenix Surf, which also won its bracket.
Montclair received strong play from Katrina Alejandrino, Hannah Boruta, Noe Kittredge, Eva Latvala, Lana McKay, and Isabella Zurada.
The Phoenix Cup title was the Clippers’ second tournament win in a month. Montclair played up a year and won the Castro Valley SC Spring Classic at the end of February.
Montclair is coached by Mark Savvides, with assistants Jessie Small and Martin Zurada.
